Office

Our parish staff enjoys the respect of the community and clergy, in no small part because of their exemplary efforts in the care and nurturing of this parish. All Souls' is particularly blessed to have on staff: a Pastoral Associater, an Associate Rector, an Organist-Choirmaster, a Financial Secretary, two Child Care Directors, an Office Administrator, and a Pledge Recorder.













The Reverend Michael B. Russell, Rector

The Reverend Michael B. Russell, Rector, is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and a cradle Episcopalian. His college education was at the University of Virginia, where in addition to being a Religious Studies major, he met his wife, Kathleen. They were married in a garden there in 1972. For 10 years Fr. Mike worked in the field of community organizing, doing labor and civil rights work in South Carolina. Kathleen also worked in community organizations there.

In 1982 he went to work for the Community Renewal Society in Chicago at their children's camp. From that vantage point he entered the process in the Diocese of Chicago and was ordained in 1986. He served as curate and then interim rector at The Church of St. Paul and the Redeemer, which served the University of Chicago community. During this time Kathleen also heeded a call and was ordained in 1989. She is a hospital chaplain.
As the interim drew to a close he accepted the call to become rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Elkridge, Maryland. He served there for 10 years before coming to All Souls'

Fr. Mike is active in the theological life of the Episcopal Church as one of the leading non-academic interpreters of Richard Hooker, the foundational theologian of our Church. He has written and lectured extensively on Anglican Identity and has actually published Hooker's works in a paperback edition for seminarians.

He is an avid hobbyist as well. He loves baseball (Cubs and Orioles). He rides a recumbent bicycle for fun and exercise averaging about 80 miles a week. Growing up near the Chesapeake Bay, he learned and loves sailing. In addition he enjoys strategy games, reading, movies, and is an accomplished bread baker.




The Reverend Gwynn Freund, Associate Rector

The Reverend Gwynn Freund has served at All Souls since her ordination in 2005. She was raised in the San Fernando Valley and moved to San Diego in 1987. Following a brief career as a Quality Engineer in the aerospace industry, she became a stay at home mother of three until she entered seminary in 2000.
She has been active in the Diocese since 1987. She has served on Diocesan Council, and she is in charge of diocesan training for Safeguarding God’s People. Her interests include physical fitness, music and puzzles.




Geoffrey Graham, Organist-Choirmaster

Geoffrey Graham was appointed Organist-Choirmaster in May 2005. He was trained at Westminster Choir College at Princeton and has pursued further studies in France, Denmark and the Netherlands. He has performed from coast to coast and at many locations in Western Europe.
As the music director of All Souls', Geoff's responsibilities include those of choir director and organist of the Baroque Fritts-Richards Opus V tracker pipe organ, which was completed in 1985. The choir of All Souls' is composed of a loyal ensemble of volunteer parishioners.



The Vestry

The Vestry organization includes the Wardens and eleven commissions, as well as the Parish Treasurer and the Parish Clerk. activities of these groups are described elsewhere in this profile.
