History
All Souls’ had its beginning with a service at the Gladys Bowen Dance Studio in Point Loma on August 10, 1948. Thirty-nine people were in attendance, and the Priest-in-Charge was Dr. Hanford L. Russell, D.D. Later that month services were moved to the Point Loma Assembly clubhouse on Talbot Street.
We began as a mission of the Diocese of Los Angeles and became a parish in 1954.
A surplus military chapel was acquired and moved to our present site in 1949.
Our parish hall and church school were soon
added to complete the Church complex and in 1969 the old chapel was removed
and our current sanctuary was built.
In 1985 a dream was realized with the installation
of a new organ modeled after organs of 17th century Northern Europe.
From 1948 to the present we have been served
by three vicars and six rectors and are currently led by The Rev. Michael
B. Russell.
