My Goddaughter has just finished hiking the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine; a journey of some 2400 miles. She began the hike with one friend and ended it with many, all of them strangers at first becoming friends through sharing a common journey.
So it is with a spiritual journey with God and within a faith community. A person arrives as a stranger and then finds friends along the journey. Each person begins with God where they are, developing a deeper and deeper unity (communion) as he or she travels. And like a hike in the woods there are easy and hard paths, hills, streams, even brambles and thorns. It is something best done with others.
All Souls’ offers a gathered community of people all on this spiritual hike together. To grow closer to God, the terrain of our hike looks like this:
